Elizabeth Mather - Photographer.
I live in Coromandel, Aotearoa / New Zealand and am blessed to live close to nature which is the source of inspiration for my images. For me photography is a wonderful medium for self expression and an unfolding creative journey.
I have an interest in many photographic genres but my real passion is to create images that go beyond accurate representation of reality for photography is a creative art and challenges us in the way we see what is before us. When I first saw impressionist photography I knew it was a style I wanted to explore. I was attracted by the beautiful images which are created using simple in-camera techniques to creatively portray the subject matter using the interplay of light, line, texture and colour. My camera becomes my brush.
I also enjoy using texture layers which adds a depth and painterly quality to my images. Quite a few of the images have been done using this process of post-production.
Photographing old abandoned houses fascinates me as these neglected houses bear silent witness to the lives of the people who once lived there.
Landscape photography and working in black and white are two other areas I like to explore.
Enjoy my images
